Phobias

A phobia is an irrational response to what is usually considered a normal object or situation, and is more often than not the after effect of the subconscious mind’s reaction to a past disturbing event, harrowing time or painful episode. This is often not the event one thinks it is but the event before it became a phobia.

So what happens to cause a phobia to be triggered off? When a disturbing event occurs the s/c mind goes into minder mode and tries to prevent this or something similar happening again. It sets up over zealous preventative measures like the fight or flight syndrome, or abject fear to avoid repetition of the event and keep you out of danger.

Talk it through therapies are of limited benefit to phobias as they are tedious and incomplete. They fail to eliminate the causative factor. With Hypnotherapy, more often than not the subconscious mind can orient back in time to the point of input and eradicate the unwanted reaction. Another method used is desensitisation in hypnosis and anchoring.
