Anxiety

Many people visit their doctor with alarming symptoms, believing that they have very sinister underlying causes.  They are quite surprised and disbelieving when they are told they are suffering from anxiety and stress.  What follows is intended to help in the understanding of what sort of symptoms anxiety can produce.

Anxiety is a state of fear.  It is the over action of the mind in an ineffectual attempt to overcome a difficult environment.  There may even be a physical reaction; an effort to defend oneself against an impossible situation.  Therefore fatigue is often present, especially on slight exertion.

There is often weight loss due to reduced appetite.  Indigestion and nausea can occur, with no relation to food.  Others, however, eat more or even binge.

Symptoms associated with the urinary system are common, such as a pain in the bladder & needing to pass water too often.

Some people will feel they have an irregular heart beat and genuinely consider this organ to be diseased.  They are fearful and may complain of cardiac discomfort or palpitation, or a tight, frightening, constriction of the chest.  These symptoms often occur at rest and a doctor may be called out even at night to a patient who has had a panic attack causing momentary loss of consciousness.

Blushing and self-consciousness may also be a problem when in company, especially when at work or in the presence of a superior.  People may blush and perspire in an exaggerated way and feel excessively shy.  They may feel inferior and may have difficulty in concentrating or holding a conversation.  They may develop many different phobias.

Headaches are common, as is abdominal pain.  Constipation and diarrhoea are often present.  Pain in the neck and shoulders may be felt.

Buzzing and ringing in the ears may also occur and giddiness is more than common.  Under great stress vision can also be affected, causing great alarm.

Insomnia is the most common nervous reaction the anxious person suffers from.  They will find it difficult to get off to sleep, the sleep rhythm is broken and a vicious cycle of defeatism is set up.

These are just a few of the manifestations of anxiety and they can usually be removed effectively and efficiently using hypnotherapy, stress release and Mind and Body Management.
